April 2026

Hello,

Hope you’ve had a great Easter!

We’ve got a few things to update you on, some for ‘Everybody’ and some for ‘the Architects’; we’ll start with the ‘Everybody’

Urban Sketchers IoM with SofA

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

You might have seen our ‘Urban Sketchers IoM with SofA’ being advertised on our Facebook and Instagram

We are meeting once a month on a Sunday morning and just spending a couple of hours sketching outdoors ‘on-location’

This is a friendly and generally un-guided session and anyone and everyone are welcome to come along

The next session will be this Sunday, 19th April at 11am.  We meet outside NOA Market Hall and we will finish up there with a coffee at the end.

Just bring your sketchbook and materials and come and join in!

Heritage Conservation:

Managing Environmental Impacts in Historic Buildings

Next, focused for the construction professionals but open to anyone interested, there is a great building conservation CPD event coming up, being jointly organised by Manx National Heritage and the Diocese

‘Heritage Conservation: Managing Environmental Impacts in Historic Buildings’ will be the first in a series and is on Wednesday next week, 22nd April, at the iMuseum in Douglas, starting at 9:30am.

A morning lecture and afternoon workshop (limited places in the afternoon) will be led by Tobit Curteis, Managing Partner at Tobit Curteis Associates LLP

Tobit is a leading conservation accredited surveyor who advises many major UK heritage organisations; his practice specialises in the investigation and control of the environment for the conservation of historic buildings, archives and collections, as well as for sustainable development and decarbonisation.

STEP scheme

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

We’ve been asked by Department for Enterprise who run the STEP scheme if any of the architecture practices would be interested in hosting a STEP student this summer:

"The Programme connects undergraduates with organisations across the Isle of Man to complete industry-related placements for eight weeks during the summer.  This year the Programme will take place during June, July and August 2026.

Students applying to the Programme come from a wide range of disciplines, including Architecture, and the Department is seeking hosts to support these students.

If you’re looking for short-term additional resource with an enthusiastic student, at great value for money, please get in touch via step@gov.im

You can find out more details of the scheme here"

Please do get in touch with them directly if you’re interested, it’d be great if we have one or two practices representing the profession as part of this great programme!
