Happy New Year 2026
Hello ,
This is our ‘Happy New Year’ newsletter and we can’t believe it’s already the middle of January!
We have a few events in our diary that we hope you will be interested in.
SofA Film Club
First of all, our second movie presentation in conjunction with the Friday Film Club at the Erin Arts Centre will be on Friday 23 January at 7.30pm.
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
The film is ‘KOOLHAUS HOUSELIFE’ by filmmakers Beka + Lemoine. The movie portray Rem Koolhaas’s famous ‘Maison à Bordeaux’ through the ‘everyday experiences and practical struggles’ of Guadalupe the house keeper - a humorous and touching look at how this particular architectural masterpiece functions (and malfunctions) highlighting the space between design theory and domestic reality.
This event is open to everyone and it would be great to see you there. It’s early days in our partnership with Erin Arts Centre and so your support would be appreciated
You can book your tickets here:
Urban Sketchers
Coming up in February, we will be running our inaugural ‘Urban Sketchers’ meeting. We are planning to hold these events regularly through the year and these are open to everyone of any drawing ability. You will just have to bring your favourite sketch book or drawing materials, and your eyes, and let’s see what we can produce together. We will share more details in the next newsletter but, for now, put 11am, Sunday 22 February in your diary!
SofA AGM - TBC
We will be announcing our AGM date to members in the coming weeks. This will be open to everyone who has paid their 2025 membership fees (it’s not too late to pay, if you’re not sure whether you’ve paid or not, just get in touch).
CIOM CPD
For the architects and other construction consultants among us, Construction Isle of Man are holding a CPD on 21 January that you might be interested in ‘Fire Safety Forum’ delivered by Jamie Davis from PartB. Jamie has extensive experience and is going to provide an overview of recent legislation changes as well as practical examples which illustrate the importance of detailing, specification and workmanship for fire safety. Read more and book your place here.
CIOM Careers Fair
And on 12 February we will have a stall at the Construction Isle of Man Careers Fair at the Roundhouse in Braddan - come and say HI if you’re there too!
That’s all for now. As ever, if you’ve any queries or would like any further information, please just email us back!
